Learn to Sew Like an Expert Through Our Virtual Classes
Ai-Kan has a lifetime of experience to impart on sewing enthusiasts who wish to hone their skills, or embark on a career as a seamstress or in the fashion industry. Ai-Kan studied her craft in her home country of Vietnam, and has been the proprietor of Neighborhood Alterations since 2012. She offers several packages to suit your needs, and all lessons are one-on-one tutoring in virtual Zoom meetings.
Learn how to do a custom fitting for all sizes, alter all manner of clothes, and pick up Ai-Kan's skills of speed, efficiency, and how to create the perfect fit. These can be applied to formal gowns such as wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and evening wear, business attire such as suits and jackets, and custom designs. After each lesson, Ai-Kan will assign projects for you to practice, and is always happy to answer any question you may have.
Please note that Ai-Kan will not be teaching how to use all the settings on your machine or how to clean your machine, as these vary greatly on the type of sewing machine you have.
Packages
Each lesson is one-on-one with Ai-Kan through virtual Zoom meetings. Students must have their own machine, and understand its basic usage. Ai-Kan has clear achievement goals for each lesson, and you can view the itinerary for each plan below. After each lesson, Ai-Kan will give assignments and through practice, these new skills and abilities will become fluid in your work.
Elementary Package
Welcome to the wonderful world of alterations! We dive right into practical uses with a wide variety of hemming strategies and techniques. We also look at making repairs, adding elastic waists, and replacing zippers on different items.
The Elementary Package consists of 7 lessons, each of which is an hour and a half in length. You can sign up for individual lessons at $75 each, or the complete package for $500. Intermediate Package
Having mastered the fundamentals of clothing alterations, you're ready for the next phase in your journey. We take in a variety of garments, look at dropping sizes, tapper legs, shorten sleeve variations, and learn the best way to take measurements.
The Intermediate Package consists of 7 lessons, each of which is an hour and a half in length. You can sign up for individual lessons at $75 each, or the complete package for $500. Advanced Package
Only available after having taken the Elementary and Intermediate Packages, we now dive into true seamstress and tailoring mastery of the craft with complex approaches and techniques. We work with jackets, formal dresses, bodices, corsets, bustles, ruffles, and wedding dresses.
